The BRONX has its second wind. There’s a different energy amongst the talent in the Borough that birthed Hip hop, a measure of unity and strength in camaraderie. 2010 the Bronx dominated the Underground Music Awards in BB Kings. Ever since Big Puns passing there has been a void, an emptiness that needed to be filled. Never in the borough’s Hip Hop history has there been a more diverse group of artist on the edge of stardom. Which one of today’s Bronx stars will be the next big thing?
2011 XXL Freshman Alumni Fred the Godson has become the breakout unsigned talent in today’s saturated game. Being the co owner of Blokwork studios, he has a hit man team of artist named Ax, Craze A 730 and Papers, Blokwork is the team to watch in the Bronx. While Rick Ross newest project Self Made focuses on his newest signees Wale, Pills and Meek Mills, it was Torch who was at the forefront during the war with words between 50Cent and Rozay. Torch formed his own team called The Specialyst featuring artist Smoke Grey and Provolone P. The DefJam recording artist and TripleCs member has planted seeds for the borough’s future talent. CEO of Muscle Management and the current Maybach Music Groups Vice President, Geter K also hails from the Bronx. Young Gunner aka Cory Gunz has been on the brink of stardom for years, never has the Militia captain been any closer. The 6 ft 7 ft feature off Lil Wayne’s single garnered national attention, but it was the MTV reality show that drew in an even wider audience to the Young Money artist. Keeping the momentum on full throttle is General Mysonne and his Team US camp “Salute me or Shoot me”. Recently Mysonne was recruited by the Game of Black Wall Street. With DJ. Vlad on the helm, Mysonnes online video dominance has reigned. MC battle vet Oun-P scored big on MTV with his “What you talkin bout” video that featured Lloyd Banks and Jadakiss, once again shining a spotlight to the region. Let’s not forget the former Konvict Music artist French Montana, with the hit “Choppa Choppa” and his Cocaine Boys, he shows no sign of slowing down. With Notables like Quesfire, who introduces his Iphone Applications and Flashcard albums to fans. Ruff Ryders Drag-On and Former Terror Squad member Armageddon renewed re-emergence; you can sense there’s a rally to keep the Bronx relevant. Last but not least the often misunderstood but equally talented Mickey Facts has moved to the west coast. Currently signed to Jive Records, Mr Factz adds needed diversity to new school. With Remy Ma looking at a possible 2014 release, the future looks even brighter.
It’s safe to say the music industry and fans are once again looking out for The Bronx, and while there will never be another Big Pun, KRS One or Slick Rick, you can bet The Bronx in good hands.
